The Namibian government has approved the development of four wind farms in Tsau / Khaeb National Park near the country's southwest coast. Two of the wind power projects will be implemented by state-owned NamPower, and the other two will be developed by two independent power generators.

Construction of the first wind farm will require an investment of $ 68 million, including 16 turbines that will start coastal wind power while producing 40 megawatts. Nambauer's second wind farm will have a capacity of 50 MW.

The French-Namibian company InnoSun Energy Holding will develop a third wind farm with an installed capacity of 50 MW, while the African Union will develop a 40 MW wind power project.

Energy expenditure in Namibia

The completion of the four wind energy projects is expected to help reduce Namibia's energy dependency relative to its neighbors. More than 50% of Namibia's electricity comes from power banks in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Southern Africa. Electricity is mainly derived from fossil fuels, and all petroleum products are imported, so its energy supply is fragile.

Teofilus Nghitila, director of the Namibian Ministry of Environment and Tourism, said: "These different projects will enable Namibia to achieve its goals within the framework of the national development goals and will place the country in a situation where most of its electricity is produced by wind turbines.

In order to reduce dependence on imports, the Namibian government has decided to include renewable energy in its short-to-long-term development plans and has developed a comprehensive set of regulations and bills, including the Namibian Energy Regulatory Framework, the Renewable Energy Law and the Comprehensive Energy Efficiency Law.

The project aims to help Namibia's major energy stakeholders establish a comprehensive new energy regulatory framework for the country that takes into account the promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency and promotes fair market access, return on investment, and quality of supply , Standards, market support structures and incentives.
