On the afternoon of March 21, 2023, the Jiangsu Provincial Railway Office organized an expert review meeting for the pre-feasibility study report of the Jiangsu Xinyi-Huai'an Railway in Nanjing. Representatives from Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Ecological Environment, Department of Transportation, Department of Water Resources, Railway Group and relevant units of Huai'an City, Xuzhou City and Suqian City attended the meeting. The meeting invited 5 experts from Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Wuhan to form an expert group to participate in the review, marking a big step closer to the completion of the Huai-Xin high-speed railway!

The Xinyi-Huai'an Railway is a recent construction project specified in the "Multi-level Rail Transit Plan for the Yangtze River Delta Region" approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, and it is also listed as a "14th Five-Year Plan" start-up construction project in Jiangsu Province.

According to the pre-feasibility study report of the project, the line is drawn from Xinyi East Station of the planned Weifang-Suqian Railway, goes south through Shuyang County of Suqian City to Huai'an City, introduces Huai'an East Station of Xuyan High-speed Railway to reserve Ninghuai Station, and then connects to Lianzhen High-speed Railway The Huanglou Line is connected with the Ninghuai Railway under construction. The new main line has a total length of 129.1km and a design speed of 350km/h.

The Xinhuai high-speed railway is the first high-speed railway in Shuyang County. Shuyang has a permanent population of 1.67 million and a registered population of 2 million. It is the county with the largest registered population in Jiangsu Province. In recent years, with the opening of high-speed railways in surrounding counties and cities such as Xinyi, Donghai, Guanyun, Guannan, Lianshui, and Siyang, the famous high-speed railway circle around Shuyang has been formed! The Huai-Xin high-speed railway will break this vicious circle, and Shuyang West Station is planned to be located in Shizi Street, Shuyang.

As an integral part of the central channel of the six-horizontal and six-vertical high-speed railway corridor in Jiangsu Province, the construction of the Xinhuai Railway is to respond to the national development strategy, accelerate the construction of the Yangtze River Delta regional economic integration, strengthen the connection between various economic zones, and improve the road network pattern.

All in all, Suqian will definitely be an important transportation hub in northern Jiangsu in the future. In the early stage, a proposal for a high-speed rail linking the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal belt running through southern Jiangsu, central Jiangsu and northern Jiangsu was proposed. Although I don’t know if it will take shape, the transportation development of the three counties and two districts will definitely be better.
