Guinea's Kagbelem Overpass Completed and Opened to Traffic

On April 18, 2023, the reconstruction and repair of the municipal roads in Conakry, Guinea, and the construction of the MATOTO and KAGBELEN flyovers, undertaken by the Chinese company Bengbu International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co., Ltd. (CBITEC), ushered in an important node. The KAGBELEN overpass is open to traffic. The President of the Transitional Government of Guinea, Mamadi Doumbouya, together with the Prime Minister and government officials at all levels attended the opening ceremony. Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Chinese Ambassador to Guinea Huang Wei were invited by the Guinean government to witness the opening of the overpass.

Ambassador Huang Wei delivered an important speech at the ceremony, mentioning that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Chinese government has been committed to the common development of the two countries and contributed to the economic construction of Guinea. The friendship between the two countries has a long history.

The project owner, the Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works of Guinea and the government spokesperson pointed out in his speech that the KAGBELEN overpass is the main transportation hub connecting the capital Conakry and the inland areas, and the completion and opening of the bridge will greatly relieve the traffic pressure in the capital.

The KAGBELEN overpass is an overpass with a total length of 504.59 meters. The completion and opening of the bridge is of great strategic significance to the rapid economic development of Guinea. The reconstruction and restoration of municipal roads in Conakry, Guinea and the construction of KM36 and KAGBELEN overpasses are one of the first batch of implementation projects under the framework of China-Guinea resource-for-loan strategic cooperation.

The cooperation framework is led by senior officials of the Chinese and Guinean governments, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Guinea will provide a syndicated loan to the Chinese side, and the owner is the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works of Guinea. Bengbu International is implementing it as the EPC general contractor. The project is located in the urban area of Conakry, the capital of Guinea. It includes 52 roads with a total of 69.5 kilometers and 2 overpasses. The project officially started on June 21, 2019, and the construction period is until June 2023. On the 30th, the total construction period is 48 months.

Ethiopian Awasa Lake Road Project handed over

Recently, the Southern Branch of the Ethiopian National Highway Bureau and the supervisory unit completed the final acceptance of the first bidding section of the Awasa Ring Road Project, marking the construction of the Awasa Ring Road project undertaken by China Communications Construction and implemented by the China Communications First Public Works Group. The lake road project as a whole has successfully completed the final handover.

The design and construction project of Awasa-Awasa Airport-Bishanguracha Highway is located in the north of Awasa, a famous tourist city in Ethiopia, and surrounds Awasa Lake. The project is divided into two sections with a total length of 34.52 kilometers. The design standard is asphalt concrete pavement, and the road is a two-way single lane with a width of 7 meters. After the project is completed, it will serve as the main channel leading to Awasa Airport from Awasa City and surrounding cities, driving the development of tourism in Awasa City.

After the acceptance, Mohammed, director of the Ethiopian Highway Bureau, personally issued a certificate to commend the outstanding performance of the project manager Lu Hongbo in the project construction process.Editor/Ma Xue
