On July 12, 2023, the first foundation pouring ceremony was held in Chongqing section of Jinshang Hubei ± 800kV High-voltage direct current Line Project, marking the full commencement of the line project.

Jinshang Hubei ± 800 kV High-voltage direct current Project has newly built three UHV converter stations in Tibet Kamai, Sichuan Bangguo and Hubei Daye, with a transformation capacity of 16 million KVA. The line passes through four provinces, autonomous regions and cities in Tibet, Sichuan, Chongqing and Hubei, with a total length of 1784 kilometers. The Chongqing section has a total length of 222.383 kilometers and passes through 6 districts and counties, including Tongnan, Tongliang, Hechuan, Dianjiang, Liangping, and Wanzhou. It has erected 445 iron towers, including 299 linear towers and 146 tension towers. The Chongqing section is expected to be transferred to tower construction within the year and put into operation in April 2025.

The Chongqing section of the line will cross two oil and gas field exploration rights, pass through four forest areas, cross six navigable rivers, and even involve large-scale crossing construction of the Yangtze River. There are many external sensitive points, which require higher compliance with the law. Faced with many difficulties such as a wide range of job sites, short construction cycles, and difficult organization and coordination, the construction process of the line project adopts 3D visualization for design, BIM technology to support quality control, video monitoring to assist safety management, and the Zhihuiyun system to ensure on-site material management, ensuring the smooth progress of the project.

After completion, 40 billion kilowatt hours of clean power can be delivered every year. Clean hydropower in the upper reaches of Jinsha River in Sichuan and Tibet will be delivered to the load center in central China, which can reliably guarantee the power supply in Central China during peak power consumption. It is of great significance to optimize the national energy layout, meet the demand for clean development, and increase the proportion of clean energy. Editor/Xie Li
