Energy storage technology is an important development direction in the future energy field. On February 21, 2024, Harbin Electric Power International and Progresiva Energy Investment Company held a ceremony in Ankara to officially sign the EPC contract for the Porgeriva 250 MW/1000 MWh energy storage project. Türkiye's Vice President Jeffert Yermaz and Chinese Ambassador to Türkiye Liu Shaobin were invited and attended the event.

The project will be jointly operated by Harbin Electric International as the EPC contractor and Türkiye Progresiva Energy Investment Company. The total investment is expected to be about 400 million dollars. At present, the project is in the early stage of financing. It is planned to start construction in Taiqierda region in January 2025 and officially put into production in 2027.

The project is located in Taiqierda Province in the west of Istanbul, only 35km away from the access point between Türkiye and the European Power Exchange Center. According to the plan, the design system power of the energy storage power station is 250 MW, and the maximum design energy storage capacity can reach 1 GW/h, which is the first GW level energy storage power station in Türkiye. Wind power generation will be the main source of electricity for this energy storage project in the future. The project is of great significance for Türkiye to ensure its own energy security, and will also enable Türkiye to play a more important role in the regional energy pattern, and further help Türkiye to achieve the carbon neutral goal in 2053. After the completion of the project, the power of the power station energy storage system will be 250 MW, and the maximum reserve will be 1 GW, which will fill the gap in the field of Türkiye's GW level energy storage power stations.
