According to news from Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt, the Northvolt Drei battery super factory located in Hyde, Germany officially started construction on March 25, 2024.
It is reported that the factory will utilize renewable wind power from the region where Germany's first wind farm is located, with plans to hire about 3000 employees and a maximum annual production capacity of 60GWh, which is sufficient to provide battery products for approximately 1 million electric vehicles. It will begin its first operation in 2026.
It is reported that the total investment of Northvolt's German factory is expected to be around 4.5 billion euros, and it will receive over 900 million euros in assistance and guarantees from the German government. The reason why Germany provides such strong funding is mainly because it is afraid that the project will be transferred to the United States. Earlier, the European Commission issued a statement stating that if the German government does not provide direct funding of 700 million euros and guarantees of 202 million euros, Northvolt will consider establishing a new factory in the United States.
According to official information from May last year, the Hyde factory in Germany is Northvolt's third super factory, with plans to start producing batteries by the end of 2025 and commence commercial production the following year. Editor/Zhao E
