Recently, with the roar of the first excavator, the construction of the Yongkang City Urban Flood Control Huaxi Regulation Project, an urban drainage and waterlogging prevention and additional national bond issuance project in Yongkang City, Zhejiang Province, officially kicked off. The launch of this major project marks a solid step taken by Yongkang City in improving the city's flood control capabilities.

It is reported that the total investment in the project is as high as 378 million yuan, of which 87 million yuan is centrally funded, which fully demonstrates the country's great emphasis on and strong support for the construction of local flood control facilities. The core content of the project includes the construction of a new Huaxi control gate, expanding the width of the Tianzhai flood diversion channel from 25 meters to 60 meters, extending the length by 550 meters, and reconstructing the Jincheng Road Bridge and Longchuan East Road Bridge. Through these measures, when Huaxi encounters flooding, the flood can be effectively introduced into Nanxi through the control gate, thereby significantly enhancing the flood control capacity of the downstream urban section of Huaxi and ensuring the safety of urban residents' lives and property.

In recent years, with the frequent occurrence of extreme weather and climate events, the threat of natural disasters such as heavy rains and floods has become increasingly intensified. The Yongkang Water Conservancy Bureau is well aware of the urgency and importance of improving urban defense capabilities, and therefore lists it as a key task in the 13th and 14th Five-Year Plans for water conservancy. Since 2018, the bureau has conducted a comprehensive assessment of the flood control capabilities of urban rivers and made special reports at multiple executive meetings. After in-depth research and careful planning, the Yongkang Municipal Government finally decided to implement the urban flood control capacity improvement project in conjunction with urban renewal, and successfully included the Huaxi City Defense Improvement Project in the issuance of additional treasury bonds in 2023.

The Yongkang Municipal Water Conservancy Bureau attaches great importance to this hard-won and significant flood control safety project. They actively maintain close contact with the municipal development and reform, finance, capital regulations, construction and local towns (streets) and other unit departments to fully ensure the smooth progress of the project. At the same time, they required all participating units to advance project construction at full speed with safety, quality, and progress as the core while ensuring flood control safety and project quality.
