On April 7, 2024, the cooperation signing ceremony of Longtan pumped storage project in Tangzhuang Town, Henan province was held in Dengfeng City, Henan province. Xin Shaohe, Secretary of Dengfeng Municipal Party Committee, attended the signing ceremony and made a speech, Chen Yaozong, Deputy secretary of Dengfeng Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, presided over the signing ceremony, Zhong Jun, General manager of China Railway Eighth Bureau, Zhu Bodong, deputy general manager, attended the signing ceremony.

At the signing ceremony, China Railway Eighth Bureau signed a project cooperation agreement with Dengfeng Municipal Government, South to North Water Transfer Group New Energy Investment Co., Ltd. and Yellow River Survey, Planning, Design and Research Institute Co., LTD. Xin Shaohe delivered a speech, expressing warm congratulations and heartfelt thanks to the successful signing of the project, and put forward specific requirements around the early implementation of the project.

The newly built Longtan pumped storage project in Tangzhuang Town of Dengfeng City is located about 40 kilometers away from Zhengzhou. The installed capacity of the initial proposed power station is 300,000 kilowatts, and the static investment of the power station is about 2.2 billion yuan. After the investment of the project is completed, it will provide more power supply options for Dengfeng City and effectively drive the further development of the new energy industry.

In his speech, Zhong Jun stressed the determination of the China Railway Eight Bureau to serve the construction of the Longtan pumped storage project, and promised to ensure the safe implementation of the project. He mentioned that this signing not only represents the close cooperation between China Railway Eight Bureau and the New Energy Investment Co., LTD., the Yellow River Survey, Planning and Design Institute and Dengfeng City, but also an important milestone for all parties to achieve complementary advantages and work together. Pumped storage power station, as a special power supply, has many functions such as peak load and valley filling, frequency and phase regulation, emergency backup, etc., which can significantly improve the safety and stability of power system. Especially during the peak hours of power demand, pumped storage power stations can quickly release the stored electric energy, effectively alleviate the pressure on power supply, and ensure the continuity of power supply. The project helps to promote the consumption of new energy and reduce the use of fossil energy. Pumped storage power stations can convert excess electrical energy into water potential energy storage, and then release it through power generation when needed, so as to realize the full utilization of renewable energy.
