April 28, the sun is shining, spring is abundant, this day for Huai 'an city and even the whole Jiangsu Province, is a special day. The compressed air energy storage project with the largest energy storage capacity and the highest conversion efficiency in the country has officially started in this vibrant city. This is not only a feat of technological innovation, but also a bold exploration of the future of energy use.

This project, listed as a major project in Jiangsu Province in 2024, shows its importance and influence. Led by the provincial Guoxin Group, together with the provincial state-owned Su Salt Group and the municipal state-owned Huaian Industry and Investment Company, three powerful enterprises work together to promote this great project. They make full use of the 900,000 cubic meters of salt cave resources that have been mined in Jiangnan mining area of Huai 'an City, turning the abandoned salt cave into waste and treasure, and transforming it into a green and efficient energy storage power station.

The core of the project is the construction of two sets of 300,000-kilowatt compressed air energy storage power stations. These power stations use domestic equipment, not only to ensure the advanced nature of technology, but also highlight the strength of China in the field of energy equipment. At the same time, the project implemented the molten salt heat storage and high temperature scheme, which made the conversion efficiency reach an astonishing 71% or more, far exceeding similar projects. In addition, the power station also has phase modulation and black start functions, which can quickly respond to fluctuations or failures in the power grid to ensure the stable operation of the power system.

It is expected that the first set of units will be officially put into operation in June next year, and the entire project will be fully put into operation by the end of next year. At that time, the first set of units will be able to achieve 16 hours of compression and 8 hours of power generation per day, and the energy storage is equivalent to the level of 2.4 million KWH electrochemical energy storage power stations. Such energy storage scale will undoubtedly greatly improve the adjustment capacity of the grid and the reliability of power supply.

The construction of this project is not only the breakthrough of the key core technology of large-capacity and high-conversion compressed air energy storage, but also of great significance to the optimization of the future energy structure and the stable operation of the power system.
