On May 1, 2024, the construction of Zhangye pumped storage power Station in Gansu Province ushered in a key stage, and the excavation work of the inlet and outlet of the lower reservoir, the dam foundation and the reservoir basin officially kicked off.

As a key project of national pumped storage development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Zhangye pumped storage power Station in Gansu Province is a concrete measure to actively respond to and promote the realization of dual carbon goals. After completion of the construction of the power station, it will significantly optimize the energy structure of Gansu Province, strengthen the stability of the power grid, and provide a strong guarantee for the safe and efficient operation of the Hexi Corridor clean energy base.

Zhangye pumped storage power Station in Gansu Province, as the first project responsible for the construction and management of the Three Gorges construction workers in the northwest region, the key parts of the project - the lower reservoir, underground powerhouse and tailwater system of civil and metal structure installation (C2 standard), has been contracted by the China Water Resources and Hydropower Fourth Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd. and China Huashui Hydropower Development Co., LTD. Among them, the total amount of earth and rock excavation of the inlet and outlet of the lower reservoir, the dam foundation and the reservoir basin is expected to reach 10 million cubic meters, and it is planned to complete about 5.6 million cubic meters of excavation before the end of December 2024, and the overall project is expected to be fully completed in June 2025.
