On May 20, 2024, a mobilization meeting to start the Xiajiang Irrigation District project in Jiangxi Province was held in Xiajiang County. The Xiajiang Irrigation District Project is the first part of the Jitai Basin Irrigation District Construction Project. It is included in the major water conservancy projects of the national "14th Five-Year Plan for Water Security Guarantee". It is important for improving regional irrigation conditions and ensuring food security and water conservancy in our city and even the province. High-quality development is of great significance.

Ji'an City is an important agricultural area, and the Jitai Basin is its important grain production area. However, the region has long faced the dilemma of uneven distribution of water resources and cultivated land resources, resulting in inefficient water use and limited food production. In order to improve this situation, the Ji'an Municipal Government acted quickly to promote the construction project of the Jitai Basin Irrigation District, especially the Xiajiang Irrigation District project as a key project, and received provincial project approval in January 2024. The Xiajiang Irrigation District project has set a new record for Ji'an's water conservancy construction in terms of investment, coverage, benefits and speed.

The total investment in the Xiajiang Irrigation District project is up to 4.019 billion yuan, covering six major irrigation areas in Huangnibu, Jiangbian, Xingfu, Baishuimen, Wujiang North and Wujiang South. It is expected to be fully completed in 2027. This project is the largest water conservancy investment project in our city so far. It uses the Ganjiang River as the main water source, supplemented by the Wujiang River and the Gujiang River. It aims to integrate and expand existing water conservancy facilities through new water transmission and distribution projects to provide services to Jishui County, Xiaxia A total of 32 towns and 291 administrative villages in Jiang County, Xingan County and Yongfeng County provide water resources support.

The project not only optimized the allocation of water resources and built a modern regional irrigation and water supply system, but also simultaneously promoted the construction of flood control safety, soil and water conservation, and smart water conservancy. Upon completion, it will ensure water supply security for 226,100 people in urban and rural areas, cover 670,000 acres of irrigated farmland, and add 187,800 acres of irrigated area for fruit forest crops. This will provide a stable and reliable water source for grain production and rural specialty industries such as Jinggang honey pomelo, organic vegetables, high-yielding camellia oleifera, Chinese medicinal materials, etc., and effectively promote the development and quality improvement of industries that enrich the people.Editor/Cheng Liting
