Recently, the Development and Reform Commission of Hubei Province approved four proposals for water conservancy projects at once, with a total estimated investment of about 6.5 billion yuan. In 2024, Hubei Province completed water conservancy investment of over 54 billion yuan, ranking among the top in the country for two consecutive years. The concentrated implementation of these four projects marks another acceleration in the construction of the Jingchu water network.

The four major projects cover Jingmen, Xiantao, Jingzhou, and Huangshi

The modernization and renovation project of Zhanghe Irrigation Area has an investment of about 3.35 billion yuan, which is a national "dual" construction project covering 7 counties and cities including Jingmen, Yichang, and Jingzhou. It will renovate over 742 kilometers of irrigation channels and 5565 buildings, including over 5000 demolitions and reconstructions. The project is classified as Grade I.

The Tongshun River upstream drainage project has an investment of about 616 million yuan and is located in Xiantao and Qianjiang. It mainly involves the construction of Caitan Pump Station and Xingfu Second Pump Station, as well as the expansion of Caihu Sluice. It is a large-scale (2) project and has been included in the national "Implementation Plan for Key River and Flood Control Areas (2026-2030)".

The Luoshan area drainage project has an investment of about 1.72 billion yuan, covering Jianli and Honghu, with 393 kilometers of treated channels, 126 pump stations and water gates, and is also listed as a provincial-level key project. The project scale is large (2) type.

The Daye Lake drainage project has an investment of about 820 million yuan and is located in Daye, Huangshi. It involves the renovation of 62.7 kilometers of drainage channels, 39.7 kilometers of embankments, the reconstruction of 15 pumping stations, and the demolition and reconstruction of 1 sluice gate. The project is classified as Grade III. Keywords: water conservancy projects, infrastructure projects

The funds for the four projects are mainly self raised by local governments, and we are actively seeking central investment support. The specific investment amount will be clarified in the feasibility study stage. Currently, Hubei Province has the largest number of 150 major water conservancy projects under construction in the country. After these projects are completed, they will significantly enhance the flood control and drainage capabilities of the central and southern regions of Hubei Province, and lay a solid foundation for the high-quality development of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration.Editor/Cheng Liting
