On June 25, 2024, Xuanwei Reservoir, a major national water conservancy project, was grandfully started in Xuanwei Town, Qiandongnan Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, marking a new and important step in water conservancy construction in the region.
Xuanwei Reservoir project, as one of the key key projects included in the national 14th and 5th Water Security Plan, is located in the upper reaches of Qingshuijiang River in Majjiang County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. The main objectives of this project are flood control and water supply, while taking into account the needs of irrigation and power generation, and its scale is positioned as a large reservoir such as II. The construction of the project covers two core parts, one is the first hub project, and the other is the water supply and irrigation project. The total investment is expected to be about $5.287 billion and the entire construction cycle is expected to be completed within 50 months.
The construction of Xuanwei Reservoir, as the key flood control project and the core livelihood project of water supply in Yuanjiang River basin, will bring multiple far-reaching impacts. Once completed, it will not only significantly improve the flood control capacity of Kaili Old City and Kema New City, but also ensure the safety of residents. Moreover, it will effectively solve the production and living water problems of 832,000 people in the three districts of Kaili and Majiang central urban area and the surrounding rural areas, and meet the irrigation needs of 64,900 mu contiguous irrigation areas. This important project is of great significance to the sustainable economic and social development of ethnic minority areas in Guizhou Province, and will vigorously promote regional rural revitalization, regional economic prosperity and social harmony and stability.Editor/Zhang Liyuan
