On July 9, 2024, as the digging construction of the diversion tunnel branch of the Yellow River Guxian Water Conservancy Project officially started, this another control backbone project in the Yellow River Basin officially kicked off the comprehensive construction. At the mobilization meeting for the construction of the Guxian Water Conservancy Project, Minister of Water Resources Li Guoying emphasized that the Guxian Project plays an important role as an important part of the national strategy. It is not only a project, but also a landmark project that ensures the long-term peace and stability of the Yellow River and promotes high-quality economic and social development in the basin. The completion of the Guxian Project will complement the advantages of the Xiaolangdi Reservoir, greatly improve the Yellow River's water and sediment control and water resources regulation and storage capabilities, and provide strong support for solving long-term problems such as sedimentation and suspended river development in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.
The Guxian Project is located in the northern trunk section of the middle reaches of the Yellow River, spanning Jixian County in Shanxi Province and Yichuan County in Shaanxi Province. It has a unique geographical location and great strategic significance. The dam site of this project has a wide control area, covering a vast area of the Yellow River Basin, and its influence is far-reaching. The dam design adopts domestic leading technology and will become the highest roller-compacted concrete gravity dam on a red layer foundation, demonstrating the outstanding achievements and innovative capabilities of my country's water conservancy projects.
In the design of the project, various functional requirements such as flood control, sand drainage, and water diversion were fully considered. Through the ingenious layout of the low sand drainage bottom hole, the middle flood discharge hole, and the high overflow surface hole, water and sand regulation and flood control and drainage were realized. When the water level is low, the bottom hole can realize large-scale water and sediment regulation, effectively reducing sedimentation downstream; when floods come, the surface, middle and bottom holes can be used jointly to ensure the safety of flood control in the project.
