After completion, the Yongding River diversion canal will form a high-quality waterfront space, and Haidian will have an additional "waterfront garden".
The reporter learned that the Yongding River diversion canal starts from the Sanjiadian interception gate of the Yongding River, passes through the Nanhan River and Yuyuantan, and meets the Beijing moat at Xibianmen before flowing into the city. The Yongding River Diversion Canal is an important water diversion project and water resource scheduling channel in Beijing. It is the first water diversion project built in Beijing and has now become an important component of the city's river and lake water network.

The Yongding River diversion canal (Haidian section) starts from the West Third Ring Bridge in the west and ends at the junction of Haidian and Xicheng in the east, with a total length of 3.45 kilometers, connecting urban landmarks such as Yuyuantan Park, CCTV Tower, and China Century Altar. The total construction scope covers 6.77 hectares of landscape improvement and 13.92 hectares of water surface treatment.
In addition, the project will also create a 5.9-kilometer continuous pedestrian greenway and a 2.7-kilometer cycling greenway, widen the waterfront trail to 1.8 meters, add pedestrian bridges, river steps, and composite recreational spaces, and add leisure facilities, science popularization nodes, and barrier free passages.
