On August 1, 2024, Masdar, a leader in the clean energy sector in the United Arab Emirates, and Total Energy, a well-known French company, officially signed a cooperation agreement to jointly explore innovative projects using methanol produced from green hydrogen as a sustainable aviation fuel. This cooperation not only marks the deepening cooperation between the two sides in the field of clean energy, but also reflects the common pursuit of decarbonization in industries such as aviation and navigation that are difficult to reduce emissions globally.

Masdar Company stated in the agreement that the core goal of the project is to help industries such as aviation and navigation, which have traditionally struggled to achieve emissions reductions, achieve decarbonization goals through advanced green technologies. To achieve this goal, the project plans to capture a large amount of carbon dioxide from industrial sources and combine it with green hydrogen, a clean energy source, for the production of green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel. This innovative production method is expected to provide a new, low-carbon fuel option for the aviation industry.

The International Civil Aviation Organization has also given high praise to this, stating that sustainable aviation fuel can reduce carbon emissions by up to 85% during the fuel lifecycle compared to traditional petroleum aviation fuel. This significant emission reduction effect undoubtedly provides new ideas and directions for the green development of the global aviation industry.

However, despite the significant environmental advantages of sustainable aviation fuel, its current production scale is relatively small and its cost is higher compared to traditional kerosene, so its practical application is still in the early stages. In order to promote the widespread application of sustainable aviation fuels, further technological innovation, policy support, and market cultivation are needed. Keywords: overseas engineering, international engineering construction, foreign engineering construction news.

The UAE government has attached great importance and support to this innovative project. They plan to build the UAE into a regional center for low-carbon aviation fuel and are committed to increasing the production of sustainable aviation fuel to 700 million liters per year. To achieve this goal, the UAE government also plans to establish a national regulatory framework and actively explore policy measures to support the long-term operation of sustainable aviation fuel facilities. These measures will undoubtedly inject new impetus into the UAE's development in the global clean energy sector. (This article is from the official website of Jian Dao: www.seetao.com.
