According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the head of the US Department of Foreign Affairs briefed the media on the visit of US National Security Advisor Sullivan to China on the 25th, further introducing the relevant situation and answering questions from reporters. The head of the US Department of Commerce stated that Wang Yi, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, will have in-depth exchanges of views with Sullivan on China US relations, sensitive issues, and major international and regional hot topics.  

The head of the US Department of Commerce stated that the strategic communication between the Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office and the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs was an important consensus reached at the November 2022 Bali Summit between the heads of the US and China. Afterwards, Director Wang Yi and Assistant Sullivan conducted three rounds of strategic communication in Vienna, Malta, and Bangkok, all of which were substantive and constructive, achieving positive results. Both parties agree to continue utilizing this strategic communication channel effectively.

This is also the first visit to China by Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs after eight years, and the first visit by Assistant Sullivan. It is an important measure for both sides to implement the consensus reached at the San Francisco summit between the two heads of state. After the San Francisco meeting, the diplomatic, financial, law enforcement, climate change teams and the two militaries of the two sides maintained communication, and people to people exchanges between the two countries were also increasing. At the same time, the United States continued to contain and suppress China, and China resolutely countered. China US relations are still at a critical juncture to stop the decline and stabilize.

In the above context, Director Wang Yi will have in-depth exchanges of views with Assistant Sullivan on China US relations, sensitive issues, and major international and regional hot topics. Both sides will jointly review the progress made by the two countries in implementing the San Francisco Summit Consensus, fully leverage the role of the more than 20 dialogue and communication mechanisms established and restored by both sides, and continue to explore the boundary issues between China US strategic awareness, national security, and economic activities.       The United States has continuously taken unreasonable measures against China in terms of tariffs, export controls, investment reviews, and unilateral sanctions, seriously damaging China's legitimate rights and interests. China demands that the US stop politicizing and securitizing economic and trade issues. The foundation of China US relations lies in the private sector. The US side should work with the Chinese side in a reciprocal manner and take more measures to facilitate personnel exchanges between the two countries. China will also urge the United States to fulfill its responsibilities as a permanent member of the Security Council and play a constructive role in the political resolution of current major and prominent international and regional issues, rather than the opposite.

The head of the US Department of Commerce emphasized that China's policy towards the United States has always been consistent with the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation proposed by President Xi Jinping. This is not only the experience extracted from over 50 years of China US relations, but also the inspiration brought by major power conflicts in history, and should be the direction of joint efforts between China and the United States. Regarding the South China Sea issue, the person in charge emphasized that China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights in the South China Sea have sufficient historical and legal basis, and countries in the region have full confidence, wisdom, and ability to handle the South China Sea issue well. Foreign countries should not engage in activities that provoke confrontation or exacerbate tensions.

The person in charge pointed out that China is committed to promoting peace and upholding justice in the Middle East issue, supporting all parties to safeguard their legitimate rights and interests, especially supporting Palestine in restoring its national legitimate rights. The urgent task is for all parties involved in the conflict to effectively implement relevant Security Council resolutions and create conditions for a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible.
