The Lemi National Cement Plant is located in Lemi Town, Amhara Region, Ethiopia, about 120 kilometers away from the capital Addis Ababa. This cement clinker production line, known as the "Star of Africa," with a daily output of 10000 tons, is contracted by a Chinese enterprise and is an important milestone in the infrastructure construction and industrialization process of China Africa cooperation.

Before the production line was put into operation, the supply of cement in Ethiopia was in short supply and the price remained high. Since the cement plant was unveiled and put into operation in September 2024, the tight supply of cement in the local area has significantly improved. At present, there is almost no need to wait to purchase cement, and it can be loaded and left on the same day. The price has also decreased from 15000 birr per ton to about 10000 birr (1 RMB is about 18 birr).

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy stated at the unveiling ceremony that the commissioning of Lemi National Cement Plant has significantly increased the production capacity of Ethiopian cement and improved the lives of more people. The factory currently accounts for over one-third of the country's cement production capacity per day, making it one of the largest cement production bases in Africa.

The production line project manager Ye Fei introduced that the production line adopts the most advanced second-generation new dry cement production technology, realizing the digitization and intelligence of the production process, while paying attention to environmental protection and efficient utilization of resources. There are over 800 cameras on the production line, and the staff can monitor and control the entire production process through the central control screen.

The construction and operation of cement plants have also brought a large number of employment opportunities to local residents. During the peak period of construction, the project provided over 3000 job opportunities for Laimi Town, and currently there are still more than 1000 local people engaged in related work. Local employee Xie Wa said that working at the cement plant and learning to master the latest technology in cement production is a huge opportunity for personal ability improvement.
