Sembcorp issued a statement last week stating that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Solar Singapore Pte Ltd, has reached a 25-year Renewable Energy Procurement Agreement (REPA) with Malkoha Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Meta Platforms, Inc. According to the content of the agreement, Sembcorp will build, own, and operate a floating solar photovoltaic power generation system with an installed capacity of approximately 150 megawatts peak at the Kranji Reservoir in Singapore.

This photovoltaic system will supply renewable energy for Meta's business operations in the Asia-Pacific region, especially its data center in Singapore. If all the terms of the REPA agreement are met and the relevant regulatory approvals are successfully obtained, this floating solar power plant is scheduled to officially start construction in the first half of 2027.

Du Weiqiang, Director of the Hydrogen and Sustainable Energy Office of the Energy Market Authority (EMA) in Singapore, pointed out that upon completion, this project with an installed capacity of 150 megawatts peak will surpass the existing large floating photovoltaic installation with only 60 megawatts peak on the current Tengeh Reservoir and become the largest floating solar power plant in Singapore. Du Weiqiang also predicted on his LinkedIn profile that in the coming years, more large-scale floating solar projects will be launched on Singapore's reservoirs. He 预估,the coverage rate of solar installations on the rooftops of HDB flats will increase significantly in the next few years, rising from 40% at the end of 2024 to nearly 90%. (This article is from the official website of Seetao.com, www.seetao.com.
