Under the guidance of the Belt and Road Initiative, Chinese companies have helped Cambodia achieve leapfrog infrastructure development with their outstanding engineering strength and deep cooperation sincerity. From the "Cambodia's tallest bridge" to the largest 4F-level airport in Southeast Asia, from the Cambodia Dechong National Stadium to the modern medical center, China-Cambodia infrastructure cooperation is witnessing the new achievements of China-Cambodia's "hard-core brotherhood" friendship with benchmark projects.
Cambodia Dechong National Stadium is located in Shuixinghua District, northeast of Phnom Penh. It is built by the Chinese government and undertaken by China Construction. It is the largest, highest-level, largest and highest-level stadium with the Chinese government foreign aid so far.
It is reported that the project is the Cambodia Dechong National Stadium, the main venue of the 32nd Games. It covers an area of about 16.22 hectares and a total construction area of 82,400 square meters. It is a super-large stadium with a capacity of 60,000 spectators. It can hold large-scale events such as intercontinental sports games, large-scale international events and national ceremonies.
The overall design plan of the Cambodian Dechong National Stadium project was personally selected by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. The overall design of the project is simple and modern, with a novel shape. It introduces the overall plan of the moat of ancient Angkor Wat, and integrates traditional elements such as Cambodian "Half-Rite" and ancient architectural roofs into the 99-meter-high herringbone tower shape at both ends of the stadium, realizing the deep integration of Chinese technology and Cambodian culture. The shape is like a sailboat, which means that China-Cambodia friendship sets sail and sails.
Latest news: Soy Sokhan, State Secretary of the State Secretariat of Cambodia Civil Aviation and Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the Operation of Dechong International Airport, said on May 2, 2025 that the specific opening date of Dechong International Airport will be announced within two weeks.
Dechong International Airport is undertaken by China Construction, covering an area of 2,600 hectares, spanning Gandan Province and Chajiao Province. 94% of the construction progress has been completed. The project was developed by Cambodia Airport Investment Co., Ltd. (CAIC), jointly established by the Cambodian government and Overseas Cambodia China Investment Corporation (OCIC), with a total investment of approximately US$1.5 billion. It is a 4F-class international airport and can take off and land all types of large passenger aircraft around the world.
On March 21, 2022, the Chinese government’s China-Cambodia Friendship Hospital was officially opened for help from Coasma, Cambodia. The project started construction in October 2018 and completed in December 2021. The newly built medical building has a construction area of 33,000 square meters and a scale of 400 beds, including outpatient and emergency departments, medical and technical departments, internal and surgical wards and related ancillary facilities.
The hospital design practices the concept of carbon neutrality, and ensures that the entire hospital has good natural ventilation through the setting up of atriums, corridors, ventilation and rainproof louvers and open transportation. 40% of the hospital's public space is an open area. At the same time, it combines green technology such as solar photovoltaics and solar water heater to adapt to the local environment, reduce energy dependence, reduce operation and maintenance costs, and create a modern hospital with "low energy consumption and high quality".
Cambodian Prime Minister Honmanai commented: "Chinese builders use wisdom and sweat to build a monument of friendship." In the future, with the advancement of the "Industrial Development Corridor" and the "Diamond Six-Side" cooperation structure, China-Cambodia infrastructure cooperation will continue to inject strong momentum into regional connectivity.
