On May 25, the North China Branch of China Petroleum Engineering Construction Co., Ltd. successfully won the bid for the domestic landmark green hydrogen high-pressure long-distance pipeline project, and the survey and design of the hydrogen pipeline project from Damaoqi to Baotou in Inner Mongolia.

Specifically, the project is about 190 kilometers long, and the gas source comes from the green hydrogen produced by the wind-solar hydrogen production integration project, which is an important part of the green hydrogen transmission pipeline network of "one trunk, two rings and four exports" in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and was officially approved on January 27 this year.

As early as November 2024, the Energy Bureau of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region issued a notice on the "Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Green Hydrogen Pipeline Construction and Development Plan". It is mentioned that the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region will focus on building a green hydrogen transmission pipeline network of "one trunk, two rings and four exports", and comprehensively open up a number of green hydrogen delivery channels such as Mongolia, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Mongolia, Shaanxi, Mengning, and Mengliao, so as to meet the pipeline transportation needs of pooling green hydrogen resources and connecting the consumption market, and continuously improve the green hydrogen transportation capacity.

It is worth noting that after the project is completed and put into operation, it will realize the long-distance, large-scale and low-cost transportation of high-purity hydrogen from the production site to the consumption place, and take a solid step towards fully opening up multiple green hydrogen delivery channels such as Mongolia, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Mongolia, Shaanxi, Mengning, and Mengliao, so as to meet the demand for pipeline transportation in the convergence of green hydrogen resources and the market for connecting consumption, and continuously improving the green hydrogen transportation capacity.

In recent years, PetroChina has followed the three-step strategy of "strategic layout, steady promotion, and scale development", focusing on the research and development of diversified hydrogen production technologies and the exploration of low-cost and efficient hydrogen storage and transportation, and striving to become a leading hydrogen energy supplier, trader and service provider in China, covering the entire hydrogen energy industry chain.

Between 2020 and 2060, the use of hydrogen is expected to achieve cumulative emission reductions of more than 20 billion tons. In the context of carbon neutrality, the "three barrels of oil" have laid out new business directions other than oil and gas. Sinopec aims to be "China's No. 1 hydrogen energy company"; PetroChina is committed to becoming an integrated energy company of "oil, gas, thermoelectric and hydrogen" to meet market needs through diversified energy supply; CNOOC Limited also focuses on offshore wind power, solar power generation and other technologies to build a comprehensive energy system with CNOOC characteristics.

In the future, hydrogen energy will become an important carrier for the realization of a green and low-carbon society in China, and it is expected that the fields of hydrogen storage and transportation for small-scale industry, green hydrogen to chemicals, hydrogen metallurgy, public transportation, hydrogen energy storage and power generation, and natural gas hydrogen blending will become new growth points for hydrogen.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
