On April 10, 2026, China's first 500000 ton biomass green alcohol oil demonstration project, the Liaoning Shenyang 500000 ton wind solar hydrogen fusion biomass green alcohol oil demonstration project, officially started construction. The implementation of the project marks the official transition of China's hydrogen based liquid fuel industry from the demonstration stage to the stage of large-scale construction and development.
Green alcohol oil is a clean and low-carbon liquid fuel. Its production process, in simple terms, involves using renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power to generate electricity, electrolyzing water to produce hydrogen, and then reacting the hydrogen with green carbon sources extracted from agricultural and forestry waste (such as straw, tree branches, etc.) to ultimately synthesize methanol and aviation fuel. The total investment for the demonstration project that started this time is 32 billion yuan. Based on the unique resource endowment of "wind power+biomass" in the local area, a 500000 ton biomass green alcohol oil project will be constructed with 2 GW of centralized wind power, with an estimated annual demand of about 3 million tons of biomass.
Pan Jun, Chief Expert of China Energy Engineering Corporation's China Electric Power Engineering: The project innovatively constructs a wind solar hydrogen coupled biomass gasification technology route, overcomes the barrier of green alcohol oil efficient synthesis technology, and develops an off grid "electricity hydrogen carbon" coupling system, which solves the technical bottleneck of difficult matching between the volatility of new energy power generation and the stability of chemical plant production.
In the past, wind solar hydrogen production and biomass gasification synthesis were mostly "solo efforts". For the first time, this project has achieved a transformation in the integrated raw material utilization of the "green electricity green hydrogen biomass" system on a scale of 500000 tons. In addition, the project is synchronously planning and constructing a green computing power center, actively exploring new models of "green electricity+computing power" collaborative development.Editor/Yang Meiling
