On June 10, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Amdo County, Nagqu City, marking the official start of construction of the world's highest altitude and Tibet's first tower CSP power station.

Yang Zuocai, assistant general manager of Tibet Development Investment Group and chairman of Nagquhe Hydropower Development and Investment Co., Ltd., said that as an important part of the "14th Five-Year Plan" key energy project of Tibet Autonomous Region and Tibet's 750,000 kilowatt CSP project, the power station has a total investment of about 2.037 billion yuan, using advanced molten salt tower CSP technology, reflecting solar energy to the heat absorption tower through 16,000 heliostats and 800,000 square meters, and outputting continuous and stable clean energy. The plant is scheduled to be connected to the grid in October 2026.

Yang Zuocai said that the power station is located in the weak power grid area of Tibet at an ultra-high altitude of 4,650 meters, and has the characteristics of insufficient stable power supply, high wind speed, severe cold and hypoxia, super ultraviolet rays, and large annual and daytime temperature changes, which make the power station face many world-class problems in design, construction and operation.

With more than 2,800 hours of sunshine per year and abundant solar energy resources, the molten salt tower CSP system can also release and store heat energy during non-sunlight periods to ensure the continuity of power generation and achieve stable power output. After the completion of the power station, the average annual power generation can reach 260 million kWh, which can achieve 16 hours of continuous and stable power generation every day, increase the power supply capacity of the northern Tibet power grid by about 200,000 kilowatts, save 60,000 tons of standard coal every year, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 165,000 tons.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
