On July 3, 2025, the construction of the Silvania converter station of State Grid Brazil Holding Company of China started in Silvania, Goiás, central Brazil. The Silvania converter station is the transmission terminal of the ±800 kV UHVDC transmission project of State Grid Brazilian Enterprises in northeast Brazil.
The 1,468-kilometer-long project will deliver wind and solar energy from northeastern Brazil to the vicinity of the capital Brasilia, providing stable electricity for about 12 million people. The project is expected to be completed and put into use in 2029. In a video message, Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy Silveira conveyed Brazilian President Lula's congratulations on the start of construction of the converter station. Silveira said the project will promote the production and consumption of clean and renewable energy in Brazil, which is of great significance for Brazil's energy security and energy transition.
The 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) will be held in Brazil this year, and President Lula is willing to deepen cooperation with China and jointly set an example of energy transition for the world. In a video message, Brazil's Vice President Alcmín said that he expects the project to promote the integration of Brazil's power system, create jobs, and accelerate Brazil's energy transition. Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao said in his speech that green energy is a key area of China-Brazil cooperation.
In recent years, enterprises of the two countries have strengthened cooperation in hydropower, wind power, photovoltaics, hydrogen energy, new energy vehicles, and renewable materials. China is accelerating the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient new energy system, and Brazil has made the development of clean energy industry a priority for industrialization. It is expected that the project will bear fruit as soon as possible and pave the road of China-Pakistan friendship with the "circuit".(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
