On July 28, 2025, in the western desert of Medina, Saudi Arabia, the REPDO 4-AHK photovoltaic project undertaken by China Power Construction Group Co., Ltd. successfully completed the one-time reverse power transmission operation of 6 circuits of the 110 kV booster station, marking the full transfer of the project to the stage of joint commissioning of the electrical system. This important node was completed in just over 14 months, setting a new record for the construction period of large-scale photovoltaic projects in Saudi Arabia.

The project is an important cooperation result of the Belt and Road Initiative and Saudi Arabia's "Vision 2030", with an installed capacity of 1,230 megawatts, and officially started construction on May 1, 2024. After the completion of the project, it is expected to produce 3.1 billion kWh of clean electricity per year, meeting the electricity needs of 750,000 households in Medina, while reducing 3.1 million tons of carbon dioxide and 93,000 tons of sulfur dioxide emissions per year, injecting new impetus into Saudi Arabia's energy structure transformation and low-carbon economic development.
In the face of challenges such as complex geological conditions, harsh natural environment and lack of construction resources, the project team promoted the project construction with high quality through scientific planning and reasonable organization of construction resources. It is worth mentioning that in order to improve the efficiency of photovoltaic power generation and enhance the stability of grid connection, the project team has carried out scientific research cooperation with local universities in Saudi Arabia, and a number of innovative achievements have been successfully applied to the project construction and have been highly recognized by the owner.

Zhu Jing, Saudi country representative of PowerChina, said that with the deepening of the connection between the Belt and Road Initiative and Saudi Arabia's "2030 Vision", PowerChina will continue to give full play to its own advantages, focus on high-quality development, and make greater contributions to China-Saudi Arabia energy cooperation and sustainable development. The project not only demonstrates the leading technology and engineering strength of Chinese enterprises in the field of new energy, but also provides strong support for Saudi Arabia to diversify its energy structure.(This article is from the official website of Jiandao www.seetao.com may not be reproduced without permission, otherwise it will be investigated, please indicate the reprint of Jiandao Network + original link) See the photovoltaic column editor/Gao Xue
