In Singapore, a land renowned for innovation and efficiency, limited land resources have always been a practical constraint on energy development. However, wisdom often bursts in the face of challenges - turning our gaze to vast waters and becoming the new key to unlocking green electricity. Recently, with the official signing of a contract between China Power Construction Group and Shengke Singapore Solar Energy Company, a 150 megawatt giant photovoltaic power station that is about to float on top of the Kranji Reservoir has moved from blueprint to reality. This will not only be the largest floating solar project in Singapore, but also a new milestone for China Power Construction in the field of new energy after more than ten years of deep cultivation in Lion City.
Scarcity of land breeds green ideas
As an urban island nation, Singapore actively explores various renewable energy sources, and solar energy is one of the most promising choices. Constructing floating photovoltaic power stations using water bodies such as reservoirs has become the optimal solution for large-scale development of solar energy without occupying valuable land resources. The Kranji Reservoir floating photovoltaic project is the key outcome of this strategy. The project is located in the northern and central regions of the reservoir, and China Electric Power Construction will serve as the EPC general contractor, responsible for the entire construction chain from design, procurement to construction. The project is expected to commence in the first half of 2027, and upon completion, it will significantly increase the proportion of green energy in Singapore, providing strong impetus for the country to achieve its sustainable energy goals.

Ten years of deep cultivation to win market trust
This successful bid was not accidental. Since entering the Singapore market in 2011, China Power Construction Corporation has always adhered to the principle of "cultivating the local market and serving the local market". With excellent engineering quality and technical strength, it has successfully undertaken more than 20 major projects in the local area, covering key areas such as transportation, municipal services, and energy, accumulating a deep market reputation and rich local experience. The floating photovoltaic project signed this time is the first water surface photovoltaic project won by China Power Construction in Singapore, marking a significant breakthrough in the company's business field and joining the core of large-scale and technically complex green energy infrastructure construction in the local area.
Adding Green Bonds to China Singapore Cooperation
The signing of the Kranji Reservoir project has significance far beyond the achievement of a commercial contract. It is a manifestation of China's green infrastructure technology and project management capabilities being strictly recognized by developed country markets, and also the latest achievement of deepening pragmatic cooperation between China and Singapore in the field of green energy. China Power Construction Corporation will apply its advanced technology and experience accumulated in multiple floating photovoltaic projects worldwide to ensure the safety, efficiency, and environmental protection of the projects. This project will become another solid link connecting the green development strategies of the two countries, providing a successful example for more Chinese new energy technologies and solutions to serve the global energy transformation.
With the successful completion of the signing ceremony, the detailed design and preliminary preparation work of the project will be carried out intensively. This future 'water energy oasis' will not only efficiently utilize tropical sunshine to deliver clean electricity to thousands of households in Singapore, but also serve as a vivid showcase to the world how China's construction strength can use innovation and craftsmanship to help global partners tackle energy challenges and jointly depict a new picture of a zero carbon future.Editor/Yang Meiling
