PetroChina Engineering issued a major announcement that its wholly-owned subsidiary, China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau Engineering Co., Ltd., officially received a letter of award from Iraq's Basra Petroleum Company (BOC) on August 3, 2025, and successfully won the bid for the seawater transmission pipeline general contracting project in Basra Province, Iraq, with a contract amount of up to US$2.524 billion (about 18.032 billion yuan).

The project is an important oilfield supporting infrastructure project in Iraq, and the main construction content includes: the main pipeline from the seawater treatment facility to the liaison station, the feeder pipeline from the liaison station to the oilfield distribution station, and the ground facilities attached to the related pipeline. The total construction period of the project is 54 months, including 42 months in the design, procurement, construction and trial operation stage, and 12 months in the operation and maintenance training stage.

Basra Petroleum Company (BOC) is a state-owned oil company under the Iraqi Ministry of Petroleum, formerly known as Iraqi Southern Petroleum Company, headquartered in Basra Province, covering the entire industrial chain of crude oil and natural gas exploration, development, production, processing, storage, transportation and export.

The successful bid of the project marks another major breakthrough in the Iraqi oil and gas market for Chinese petroleum engineering and construction enterprises. After the completion of the project, it will effectively improve the production efficiency of the oilfield in southern Iraq and is of great significance to promoting the sustainable development of the local oil industry. PetroChina Engineering said that it will give full play to its technical and management advantages in the field of oil and gas pipeline construction to ensure high-quality and on-schedule delivery of the project.
