A consortium formed by Meridium Group and Suez Group of France recently won the bid for the Aqaba-Amman desalination project in Jordan, which will become the second largest seawater desalination facility in the world with a total investment of 4 billion euros. The project will produce 851,000 tons per day after completion, which will effectively alleviate the water crisis in Jordan, the world's most water-scarce country.
The project adopts a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, with a concession period consisting of a construction period and a 26-year operating period. The project includes the construction of an advanced desalination plant, a 450-kilometer water pipeline network and a supporting pumping station system along the Red Sea coast, with an elevation difference of more than 1,100 meters. The project innovatively supports the construction of a solar power plant with an annual power generation of 724 GWh to drive this mega-project with renewable energy.

As a global leader in water treatment, SUEZ has 60 years of experience in desalination and has built more than 260 desalination projects worldwide. The project will use state-of-the-art RO reverse osmosis technology to treat high-salinity (43g/L) seawater in the Red Sea, which is expected to provide 300 million cubic meters of drinking water per year, meeting the needs of about 4 million people, or about 40% of Jordan's national drinking water consumption.
The project is supported by international institutions such as the United States International Development Finance Corporation and the European Union, and implements strict standards in environmental protection. In particular, the project has been innovatively designed to protect the Red Sea ecosystem while exploring the possibility of maintaining the Dead Sea level.
This landmark project will not only greatly improve the quality of life of Jordanians, but also provide an example of sustainable water solutions for water-scarce regions around the world, demonstrating the technical strength and responsibility of international water companies in responding to the global water crisis.(This article is from the official website of Jiandao www.seetao.com it must not be reprinted without permission, otherwise it will be investigated, please indicate the reprint of Jiandao.com + original link) See the Middle East column editor/Gao Xue
