On August 12, the Iraqi government officially launched the construction of the first phase of the Beji No. 2 gas power plant in Salahuddin province, with a total installed capacity of 1,014 megawatts, jointly built by a consortium composed of Siemens Energy and China State Construction Group. As a key project in the reconstruction of Iraq's energy infrastructure, the power plant will significantly alleviate the local power shortage and provide stable power support to the country's largest refinery and surrounding areas.
The Beji power plant was once an important power supply base in Iraq, but it was severely damaged by extremist groups in 2014. The restoration project will restart six 169 megawatt gas generator sets and support the construction of seven 400 kV transmission lines and 132 kV regional power grids. The first batch of units is expected to be put into operation within 27 months, and all projects are scheduled to be completed in 2026. Iraqi Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized that the project is an important part of the national comprehensive development plan and will strongly promote the economic recovery of Salahuddin province.

Siemens Energy provided the core SGT5-2000E gas turbine technology for the project, which is known for its efficiency and reliability. China State Construction Group is responsible for project financing and auxiliary facility construction. This cooperation marks the in-depth collaboration between Chinese and German enterprises under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, and also injects new impetus into the modernization of Iraq's energy system.
The analysis pointed out that Iraq's power system has long faced challenges such as aging facilities and war damage, and the reconstruction of the Beji power plant will not only improve the stability of the national power grid, but also benefit the electricity needs of thousands of households. In the future, the Iraqi government plans to continue to work with international partners to further expand electricity production capacity and gradually achieve the goal of energy self-sufficiency.(This article is from the official website of Jiandao www.seetao.com it must not be reprinted without permission, otherwise it will be investigated, please indicate the reprint of Jiandao.com + original link) See the Middle East column editor/Gao Xue
