US President Donald Trump issued a new ultimatum to Iran, claiming that Iran could be dealt with "overnight," which "could" be Tuesday night. Tensions have escalated rapidly after his previous deadline of April 6 for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or reach an agreement.

Trump warned in a vulgar tone on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, calling Tuesday "Power Plant Day and Bridge Day" for Iran, threatening to destroy Iranian power plants and bridges if Tehran fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping by then. In his post, he wrote: "Open that damn strait, you lunatics and psychopaths, or you'll live in hell—just you wait! Praise be to God." In subsequent interviews with several US media outlets, he said there was a "good chance" of reaching an agreement, but warned that if negotiations failed, he was considering "blowing everything up and taking over the oil."

This is the latest hard deadline set after at least four postponements since Trump first threatened to "raze" Iran's energy infrastructure within 48 hours on March 21.
Iran's tough stance could permanently change the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has not backed down. The Revolutionary Guard Navy announced on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz "will never return to its former state," warning the US and its allies that a new regional security order is forming in the Persian Gulf, and the era of powers led by external powers is "clearly over." The Revolutionary Guard stated that a homeland security architecture dominated by regional states, rather than external actors, is in its final stages of preparation.

Iranian presidential spokesman Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei stated that the strait will only reopen when "part of the passage fees are used to compensate for all the losses caused by the war." General Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, commander of Iran's Central Military Command, denounced Trump's warning as "desperate, tense, unbalanced, and foolish," and warned that "the gates of hell will be opened for the US president."Editor/Cao Tianyi
