Chery Group has officially signed a cooperation agreement with the government of Dangshan County, Suzhou City, Anhui Province, and its subsidiary Anhui Deyi Energy Technology Co., Ltd. to jointly invest in the construction of a 20GWh lithium-ion battery production base. This project marks a further expansion of Chery's independent layout in the field of power batteries, and is also a key measure to strengthen its core supply chain for new energy vehicles.

In terms of battery strategy, Chery adopts a dual track parallel strategy of "self-developed+outsourced". The self-developed sector focuses on battery cell manufacturing with DeYi Energy as its core. At present, the company has established production bases in Zongyang Economic Development Zone in Tongling, Anhui and Wuhu. The Zongyang project was launched in January 2022 with a total investment of 10.004 billion yuan and a planned total production capacity of 20GWh. The second phase plans to build 7 production lines, add 17GWh of production capacity, and support a 5GWh energy storage product line. The main product line is square lithium iron phosphate batteries, covering the needs of multiple electric platforms of Chery Group. It is expected to be fully completed by April 2026. The Wuhu base is positioned as a hub for battery research and development and pilot testing, including pilot lines, testing centers, and energy storage research institutes, with a total investment of 8.01 billion yuan and a first phase investment of 2.81 billion yuan.

In terms of products and technology, Chery officially launched the "Kunpeng Battery" brand in October 2023, covering three major battery series: square lithium iron phosphate, square ternary, and large cylindrical. The energy density ranges from 120~240Wh/kg, which can meet the range requirements of different levels of pure electric and hybrid vehicles. At the same time, Chery is actively laying out the next generation of battery technology and is developing all solid state batteries with an energy density of over 600Wh/kg. It plans to achieve demonstration operation by 2026 and mass market by 2027. In May of this year, the Star Era ET model equipped with the "all solid state battery" logo was unveiled in Hefei, attracting industry attention.

In terms of external procurement cooperation, Chery continues to deepen its relationship with mainstream battery companies, with existing suppliers including CATL, Guoxuan High Tech, and Zhongchuang Aviation. Among them, Guoxuan High Tech has a particularly close cooperation. In January 2024, the two sides signed a comprehensive strategic agreement, covering multiple categories of projects such as passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Both parties also jointly invested in Anwar New Energy, a solid-state battery company. The company's first 1.25GWh semi-solid battery production line completed sample production in July this year and is expected to achieve mass production in the second half of the year.
