Renowned Malaysian builder Gamuda and clean energy solutions provider Gentari announced on Monday that they will collaborate to develop a renewable energy project with a total capacity of 1.5 gigawatts to meet the growing electricity demand of Malaysia's domestic mega data centers. This cooperation will be jointly promoted by its subsidiaries Gamuda Energy and Gentari Renewables, with a focus on building solar photovoltaic power stations equipped with battery energy storage systems.

The joint statement states that it is expected that by 2035, the reliable electricity demand for Malaysia's mega data centers will exceed 5 gigawatts. This data highlights the urgency of accelerating the development of renewable energy to support the continued expansion of the data center industry. Gentari's Chief Renewable Energy Officer, Low Kian Min, stated that Malaysia's digital economy is growing rapidly, with a significant increase in demand for reliable and sustainable electricity. Expanding the scale of renewable energy is not only a key measure to meet electricity demand, but also provides important support for the long-term development of the industry.

Joshua Kong, Director of Gamuda Energy, emphasized that with the comprehensive strength and financial capability of both parties, they will provide stable clean power supply for data center users, helping them achieve lower carbon footprint operations.
