On September 1, 2025, Song Hailiang, Chairman of China Communications Construction Corporation, paid a visit to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who was attending an event in China, in Tianjin. Prime Minister Anwar said that as the flagship project of high-quality joint construction of the the Belt and Road between Malaysia and China, the Malaysia East Railway Project has played a significant role in promoting the economic development of the regions along the line, and has received great attention from the people of both countries. He pointed out that the project is currently progressing well, and the Malaysian side is satisfied with the implementation work. He welcomes China Communications Construction Corporation to continue to leverage its full industry chain advantages, participate in Malaysia's infrastructure construction, green transformation, and digital economy, and continuously deepen practical cooperation.

Chairman Song Hailiang stated that Malaysia is an important market for China Communications Construction Group's overseas business. The group has long been committed to local infrastructure construction, effectively improving the level of infrastructure, creating a large number of job opportunities for the local area, and promoting economic and livelihood development. He reiterated that China Communications Construction Corporation (CCCC) will adhere to the principles of "Malaysia has needs, CCCC has advantages, both sides have consensus, both sides have aspirations, and cooperation has win-win outcomes", and cooperate with Malaysia in areas such as transportation infrastructure, digital economy, and green economy to help achieve the vision of the "Thirteenth Malaysia Plan" and the "Changming Economy".

After the meeting, both parties witnessed the signing of the relevant memorandum of cooperation agreement. The Ma Dong Railway project, as the largest economic and trade cooperation project between China and Malaysia, has a total length of about 665 kilometers and is planned to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of 2027. After completion, the project will shorten the travel time from Kelantan to Selangor from 8 hours to 4 hours, greatly facilitating residents' travel and improving logistics efficiency.
