Recently, the kick-off mobilization meeting for the reconstruction and expansion project of the Huizhou Xiaojinkou to Luogang section of the Jiguang Expressway and the Huizhou Xiaojinkou to Lingkeng section of the Guanghui Expressway (Guanghui Expressway Reconstruction and Expansion Project) was successfully held in Huangpu, Guangzhou, and the project has officially entered the substantive construction stage.

Guanghui Expressway is a major inter provincial passage connecting Fujian, Jiangxi and other places in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and is also an important high-speed artery radiating from the central city of the Greater Bay Area to the eastern Guangdong region. Since its opening in December 2003, the traffic volume has continued to rise, and the traffic pressure on some sections during peak hours has increased dramatically. The existing capacity is no longer sufficient to meet the travel needs of the public.

As a national key planning project, the Guanghui Expressway renovation and expansion project has a total length of approximately 153.9 kilometers, starting from Huangpu District in Guangzhou and ending in Huidong County, Huizhou City. There are 29 interchanges, 4 service areas, and 2 parking areas along the entire line. The design speed for the section from Tangquan to Ruhu and the existing tunnel section is 100 kilometers per hour, while the rest of the sections are 120 kilometers per hour. Among them, the section of Ji Guang Expressway from Xiaojinkou in Huizhou to Luogang in Guangzhou has been expanded from six lanes in both directions to ten lanes in both directions, and the section from Xiaojinkou in Huizhou to Lingkeng in Guanghui Expressway has been expanded from four lanes in both directions to eight lanes in both directions.

It is worth mentioning that the newly built Luofeng Tunnel in the project has a maximum excavation width of 27 meters and a cross-section of 340 square meters, making it the first super large span five lane tunnel on a highway in China, with high technical difficulty. To this end, the project will carry out technological breakthroughs and equipment research and development, create a cluster of intelligent equipment for the entire process of nine+six tunnels, construct nine large-scale mechanical construction lines and six auxiliary production lines, achieve fully mechanized and intelligent construction of tunnels, and form a replicable and promotable experience in the construction of five lane tunnels.
