Wood Mackenzie, an internationally renowned energy research institution, recently released the "Global Wind Power Market Outlook Update (Q3 2025)". The report points out that the global wind power market will enter an unprecedented high-speed growth stage in the next decade. It is expected that by 2032, the global wind power installed capacity will double, significantly improving from the level in 2024.

The report shows that the global wind power industry is about to usher in a milestone development. By 2030, the global cumulative installed wind power capacity is expected to exceed the second terawatt (TW), and this process will only take 7 years, far less than the 23 years required to achieve the first TW. By 2025, the global wind power installed capacity is expected to reach a record high of 170 gigawatts, with the fourth quarter alone contributing over 70 gigawatts, and the quarterly scale may even exceed the annual new growth of any year before 2020.

Although the growth rate of the US wind power market has slowed down due to policy influences, the global wind power market will still maintain a 13% month on month growth driven by the rapid development of onshore wind power in China. It is expected that by 2031, the cumulative installed capacity of wind power worldwide, excluding China, will exceed 1 terawatt and double again before 2034. In the next decade, the newly installed capacity in the United States may be surpassed by India and Germany, and the market competition pattern is being reshaped.

However, the report also points out that compared to the steady growth of onshore wind power, offshore wind power is facing severe challenges. Multiple regions have been hindered in project progress due to rising costs and bidding failures. European policy makers urgently need to optimize contract structures to boost the development of offshore wind power, while emerging markets are constrained by financing and technological bottlenecks, delaying the commissioning of the first batch of projects. The global wind power industry is currently in a critical stage of historic expansion, but whether it can ultimately achieve expected growth still depends on the ability of countries to respond to changes in policy environments and manage new growth patterns. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
