The expansion and renovation project of the Yinchuan Zhongwei section of the Baolan Railway is of great significance. The scope of this project includes the section of Baolan Railway from Yinchuan South Station to Huangyangwan Station, as well as related projects in Yinchuan hub and Zhongwei area. In terms of technical indicators, the railway level is Class I, and the main line adopts a double track design. The designed speed of passenger trains can reach 160 kilometers per hour, but some difficult sections for reconstruction will maintain the existing standards. The locomotive types selected are CR200J and HXD series.

The construction plan and main engineering content are rich and diverse. The Yinchuan South to Huangyangwan section of the Baolan Railway will add a second line along the existing line, with a length of approximately 123 kilometers. At the same time, the existing line will undergo speed improvement and disease control, and 11 stations including Yuding, Tietongbao, and Xiaoba will be closed. To meet the demand for high-speed train passenger operations, the station buildings of Zhongwei, Zhongning, and Qingtongxia stations will be renovated, and passenger facilities will also be upgraded. In terms of the Yinchuan hub, a 5.4-kilometer Yinchuan South to Taiyuan Zhongwei Yinchuan Railway Relief Line will be built, and dynamic multiple unit operation and maintenance facilities will be added to the Yinchuan Passenger Depot. The Yingshuiqiao Station in the Zhongwei area will be renovated from a second level four yard to a third level five yard, with a new departure yard and five arrival and departure tracks. Three shunting tracks will be added to the shunting yard, and a comprehensive automation system for the marshalling yard will be added. The Yingshuiqiao locomotive depot will be adaptively renovated.

The project is scheduled to commence on November 1, 2025 and be completed on April 30, 2029. The bidding scope is divided into pre station engineering and post station engineering.
