On September 27, 2025, the highly anticipated S27 Hohhot Ordos section of the expressway officially started construction. This key project for implementing the five major tasks in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is like a giant dragon, about to inject strong momentum into regional development and promote the integrated development of the Hohhot Baotou Urumqi urban agglomeration to a new height.

The main line of the project has a total length of approximately 127.9 kilometers and a total investment of 12.687 billion yuan. It is constructed using a two-way four lane standard with a designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour. The route starts from the north side of the Yellow River Bridge and connects to the G65 Baomao Expressway in the south. It is organized by the Ordos Transportation Bureau and jointly invested by Guangxi Road and Bridge Group, a subsidiary of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Investment Group. The project construction period is 4 years, and after completion, it will become the shortest distance and most efficient direct passage between Hohhot and Ordos, achieving 2-hour interconnection between the four cities of "Hohhot, Baotou, Hubei, and Urumqi", further improving the Hohhot Baotou Eyu urban agglomeration and the autonomous region's expressway network.
From the perspective of road network connection, the significance of this project is extraordinary. To the east, it connects to the G59 Hubei Expressway, to the north it connects to the G6 and G7 national highway backbone networks, to the south it connects to the Shanxi road network, and to the west it extends to the Ordos High tech Park. It not only improves the overall operational efficiency of the entire road network in the region, but also plays an important role in serving the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin, integrating into the overall coordinated development of Beijing Tianjin Hebei. At the same time, it is also a major investment attraction project and a livelihood project that the people expect in Ordos City.

However, the project is facing many challenges such as large investment scale, multiple approval processes, and tight starting tasks within the year. Erdos City innovates its mechanism and actively breaks through the situation. The Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have listed the project as an annual key project, established a project command center with the main leaders as the overall commander, coordinated 9 element departments and various banner districts, and established a three-level promotion mechanism of monthly dispatch, weekly dispatch of the office, and real-time coordination of special teams to strengthen organizational support for project promotion.
In terms of factor guarantee, various departments are working together to optimize the business environment. The natural resources department has initiated land registration and approval in advance, the forestry and grassland department has implemented a capacity shortage+commitment approval mechanism, and the cultural and tourism department has coordinated and prioritized the verification of cultural relics. The Municipal Transportation Bureau and enterprises have established a special promotion group, established a Mongolian Guangxi cooperation model, held frequent joint dispatch meetings to solve bottlenecks, and accelerated land acquisition and demolition in various districts to clear obstacles for project commencement.
