On September 26th, Chu Neng New Energy Yichang's 80GWh new generation lithium battery project started construction.

The project under construction this time is the second phase of Chuneng New Energy Yichang Lithium Battery Industrial Park, with a planned annual production capacity of 80GWh. It aims to develop and produce new energy products such as energy storage batteries, power batteries, and Pack modules. After the project reaches its production capacity, it is expected to create over 6000 new job opportunities, with an annual output value of 22 billion yuan.

It is reported that the total planned land area of the Chuneng New Energy Yichang Lithium Battery Industrial Park project is nearly 5000 acres, which is a high-tech industrial base integrating research and development, production, and manufacturing of energy storage batteries, power batteries, and energy management systems. Previously, the first phase of the Chuneng Yichang Lithium Battery Industrial Park project started construction in August 2022 and was officially completed and put into operation in August 2023. At present, the 65GWh production capacity of the first phase of the project has been steadily released.

In the future, Chu Neng New Energy will build a large base of over 200GWh in Yichang, which will be used to produce 588Ah~1100Ah high-capacity, 4C~8C high rate energy storage cells with a single plant capacity of 30GWh, compatible with both power and energy storage batteries.

The total production capacity of the three major battery bases exceeds 350GWh

Currently, the global energy storage market is experiencing explosive growth, especially with the continuous influx of overseas orders, which strongly stimulates the demand for energy storage cells and systems. In this context, top domestic battery companies are overwhelmed with orders, and the reality of the industry is that "even with price increases, they can't make it to the queue" and "one chip is hard to find".

Despite the continuous growth of market demand, the expansion of enterprise production capacity is also ongoing. In 2025, Chu Neng New Energy will continue to increase its battery project capacity, actively sign orders, and improve the upstream and downstream procurement layout of the energy storage industry chain. At present, Chu Neng New Energy has three smart factories located in Xiaogan, Yichang, and Wuhan, with a planned total production capacity of 350GWh. It has already formed an effective production capacity of over 100GWh for energy storage and power batteries. After the three bases are fully operational, it is expected to achieve an annual industrial output value of up to 265 billion yuan.

In May 2022, the Chu Neng New Energy Xiaogan Lithium Battery Industrial Park project started construction in the Lingang Economic Zone of Xiaogan City, with a planned total production capacity of 150 GWh and a total land area of over 3335 acres, with a total investment of 67.5 billion yuan. The first phase of the project has a designed annual production capacity of over 30 GWh and a land area of over 1000 acres. In June 2023, the first phase of the Chu Neng New Energy Xiaogan Lithium Battery Industrial Park project will be put into operation.

The total investment of Wuhan Chuneng New Energy Battery Project is 10 billion yuan, with a planned production capacity of 50GWh. It is mainly committed to the research and development, manufacturing, and sales of electrochemical energy storage, new energy vehicle batteries and systems. In January 2022, Wuhan Chuneng New Energy Jiangxia Production Base officially started construction; In May 2022, the first "Chu Neng No.1" lithium battery was released in Han; We will enter the trial production phase in November.Editor/Bian Wenjun
