On September 29, 2025, the highly anticipated construction of the new Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railway (hereinafter referred to as the new Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railway) officially began, marking a crucial step in the construction of transportation infrastructure along China's southeast coast.

The new Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railway has a clear route direction and scale planning. It starts from Leqing Station on the Hangzhou Shenzhen high-speed railway, heading south through Wenzhou City in Zhejiang Province, Ningde City and Fuzhou City in Fujian Province, and finally connects to Fuzhou South Station on the Fuzhou Xiamen high-speed railway. The total length of the newly built main line is about 303 kilometers, with a design speed of up to 350 kilometers per hour, and a construction period of 5 years. A total of 11 stations are set up along the entire line, providing strong support for the layout of transportation hubs and personnel flow in the areas along the line.

From a macro strategic perspective, the newly built Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railway is an important component of China's "Eight Verticals and Eight Horizontals" high-speed railway network along the coast. The significance of the coastal passage is extraordinary. It starts from Dandong, Liaoning in the north and ends at Fangchenggang, Guangxi in the south, with a total length of about 4000 kilometers. Like a giant dragon, it connects major economic zones such as Beijing Tianjin Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as central southern Liaoning, Shandong Peninsula, and cross-strait integration development demonstration zone. Due to the long route and wide area involved, the coastal passage is constructed in sections, and the new Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railway is a key section of it.

The new Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railway plays a significant role in connecting the road network. It, together with the already opened Fuzhou Xiamen high-speed railway, Guangzhou Shanwei high-speed railway, Shantou Shanwei high-speed railway, the under construction Zhangzhou Shantou high-speed railway, and the planned Ningbo Wenzhou high-speed railway, forms a new and higher standard Ningbo Guangzhou high-speed railway corridor, and its road network status is becoming increasingly important.
