Recently, a key piece fell on the north side of Fodu Island in Putuo District, Zhoushan City, and the first phase of the container terminal project in the Fodu operation area of Liuheng Port in Ningbo Zhoushan Port has started construction. In recent days, construction vehicles have been shuttling back and forth, creating a busy scene. This project is the first billion level port project to be constructed in Zhejiang Province since the approval of the Ningbo Zhoushan Port Master Plan (2035), with a total investment of approximately 21.1 billion yuan. It plans to utilize 2850 meters of coastline and construct a total of 7 container berths of 200000 tons or less.

The Meishan Port Area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, which is only about 3 kilometers away in a straight line from the Fodu Project facing northwest across the sea, is clearly visible. What strategic considerations does the close proximity layout of the new terminal reflect? This is a major project in the construction of a strong transportation province in our province, and it is another 'ten million TEUs' level container port area. It can form the largest and most influential container berth group in Ningbo Zhoushan Port together with Meishan Port Area, thereby further enhancing the container throughput capacity, "said the person in charge of Zhejiang Port Fodu Container Terminal Co., Ltd.

As an important component of the top ten iconic projects in the construction of world-class ports, the container terminal in the Fodu operation area is a powerful support for Zhejiang Province to build an important strategic hub for domestic and international dual circulation. In terms of functional positioning, the project aims to build a smart and green "Double Five Star" port, using a loading and unloading process system of "automated double small car quay crane+automated double cantilever track yard bridge+autonomous driving IGV" to achieve intelligent and green dual wheel drive, committed to building a globally leading nearly zero carbon fully automated container terminal.

The first phase of the construction project, which has taken the lead in opening the curtain, will build two 200000 ton container berths with a designed annual throughput of 2 million standard containers. It is expected to be completed and put into use simultaneously with the Liuheng Bridge in 2027. The second phase of the project will build 5 new container berths of 200000 tons or less, with plans to commence construction in 2028.

To ensure the efficient progress of the project, the Fodu Project Department of the Fourth Company of China Communications Third Navigation Bureau adopts a command mechanism of "daily coordination, weekly scheduling, and monthly summary", and uses digital means such as smart construction sites to finely control the entire process of "people, machines, materials, methods, environment, and measurement", ensuring seamless connection between each process. We will reasonably divide the construction area, adopt the method of parallel construction and cross operation of multiple working faces, and make every effort to catch up with the progress and ensure the nodes. The relevant person in charge of the project department stated that we will strive to make breakthrough progress in key engineering nodes by the end of 2025.  

It is reported that after the container terminal in the Fodu operation area is officially put into operation, it will significantly improve the container cargo throughput capacity and operational efficiency of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, becoming an important engine for promoting the high-quality development of Zhejiang's marine economy and building a strong marine province. It is expected to add an annual operating income of 620 million yuan and create 500 direct employment positions and 2000 indirect employment positions.
