Recently, the United Arab Emirates officially launched a milestone renewable energy project with a total investment of 22 billion dirhams (approximately 5.99 billion US dollars). The project will construct a solar photovoltaic power station with a total installed capacity of 5.2 gigawatts, and support the construction of an advanced battery energy storage system with a capacity of 19 gigawatt hours. It is expected to be fully completed and put into operation by 2027. This groundbreaking project is jointly developed by Masdar, a leading renewable energy company in the United Arab Emirates, and Emirates Hydro, aiming to provide stable and reliable clean electricity for the country's core industries.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the project was grandly held under the leadership of Sheikh Tahab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice Chairman of Development Affairs of the Presidential Court. According to the project team, this is not only the most ambitious renewable energy project in the UAE to date, but will also become the world's largest and most advanced integrated solar energy storage facility, marking a major breakthrough in the development of renewable energy technology.

This project is expected to bring significant economic and social benefits. According to estimates, after the project is put into operation, it can reduce carbon emissions by about 5.7 million tons per year and create over 10000 job opportunities, effectively promoting the development of local manufacturing industry and talent cultivation. At the technical level, the project will integrate cutting-edge technologies such as virtual power plant systems, grid based energy storage technology, and artificial intelligence prediction tools to ensure stable operation of the power grid and effectively solve the industry problem of intermittent renewable energy supply.
Sultan Jabir, Chairman of Masdar, said, "As countries around the world intensify efforts to ensure energy security and sustainability, the United Arab Emirates is opening up a new path of sustainable development through advanced technological innovation. This project embodies our rich experience accumulated in the field of renewable energy over the past 20 years, fully demonstrating the synergistic power of Abu Dhabi's energy ecosystem
Ahmed Shamsi, CEO of UAE Hydro, emphasized: "This groundbreaking project reflects our firm commitment to the national vision. As the UAE establishes its position as a global AI research and development center, the project will provide sustainable energy security for key areas such as data centers, supporting the country's economic diversification strategy.
