Recently, the Guangdong 510MW offshore wind power project with a total investment of 7.897 billion yuan was officially signed in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, marking another heavyweight pivot for green energy layout in the region. As a key project in Guangdong Province's "14th Five Year Plan" for energy development, the project is located in the northern waters of the South China Sea with a planned installed capacity of 510 megawatts. It is expected to be fully connected to the grid for power generation by the end of 2026 and will become a leading and large-scale offshore wind power demonstration project in southern China.

The project plans to install 102 5-megawatt offshore wind turbines, along with a 220 kV offshore booster station and approximately 35 kilometers of submarine cable lines. The wind turbines will have a single unit height of over 150 meters, an impeller diameter of 160 meters, and a single unit sweeping area equivalent to three standard football fields. To adapt to the complex marine environment of the South China Sea, the project adopts a typhoon resistant wind turbine design, which can withstand the impact of strong typhoons of level 17 and 12 meter waves. At the same time, floating foundation construction technology is used to minimize the impact on the marine ecology and shipping channels.

This signing is jointly invested and constructed by domestic energy leading enterprises and local state-owned enterprises. During the construction phase, 20 professional engineering ships will be deployed to form a "joint fleet" for offshore construction, which is expected to drive employment for over 3000 people during peak periods. After the completion of the project, the annual grid connected power generation can reach 1.63 billion kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to saving about 500000 tons of standard coal annually and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1.35 million tons. It can meet the annual electricity demand of nearly 1 million households and provide solid support for achieving the goals of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.

It is worth noting that the project will simultaneously build a demonstration base for the integration of "offshore wind power+ocean ranch", and deploy artificial reefs and cultivate high-quality deep-sea fish in the sea area below the wind turbine units, achieving the integrated development of "wind power generation, marine aquaculture, and ecological protection". At the same time, the engineering construction will promote the localization and upgrading of offshore wind power equipment, with core equipment such as wind turbine spindles and submarine cables using domestically developed products, driving the coordinated development of upstream and downstream industrial chains, and helping Guangdong build a national offshore wind power industry highland. As the project enters the substantive promotion stage, a series of "green energy lighthouses" will emerge over the South China Sea, injecting sustained and stable clean energy into the high-quality development of the region.Editor/Bian Wenjun
