Recently, Mingyang Intelligent, a leading Chinese wind power equipment manufacturer, and Buhawind Energy Company from the Philippines officially signed a memorandum of understanding. The two sides plan to cooperate in the development of an offshore wind power project with a capacity of 2 gigawatts in the province of North Ilocod, Philippines. According to the agreement, both parties will immediately conduct a joint feasibility study to thoroughly evaluate the technical and commercial feasibility of the project.

The project has entered the feasibility study stage

This cooperation will focus on evaluating the adaptability of Mingyang Intelligent Offshore Wind Turbine to specific wind conditions in the northern part of Luzon Island, while preparing a new energy production assessment report and development cost estimation. The feasibility study results will provide important technical basis for the subsequent engineering design, equipment selection, and investment decision-making of the project.

The development potential of offshore wind power in the Philippines is enormous

According to the latest energy planning roadmap released by the Philippine government, the potential for offshore wind power development in its waters exceeds 178 gigawatts. As of now, the Philippine Department of Energy has awarded 91 offshore wind power project service contracts, positioning offshore wind power development as a key driving force for achieving its renewable energy goals. According to the plan, the Philippines aims to increase the proportion of renewable energy in its energy structure to 35% by 2030 and further increase it to 50% by 2040.
