Recently, key pumped storage power station projects in Guangdong and Guizhou have successively announced their winning bids, with a total bid amount of 4.3 billion yuan, marking that these two major projects, which carry the heavy responsibility of regional energy supply guarantee and structural transformation, have officially entered the substantive construction stage. The winning partners in this bid are all industry leading enterprises with rich experience in the field of pumped storage. With a mature technical system and comprehensive construction management capabilities, they will promote the high-quality implementation of the project.

Among them, the Guangdong pumped storage power station project is located in the mountainous area of northern Guangdong, relying on the superior terrain and water resources conditions of the local area. The planned total installed capacity exceeds 1.2 million kilowatts, and the total investment of the project is about 2.8 billion yuan. After the completion of the power station, it will mainly undertake tasks such as peak shaving, valley filling, frequency regulation, phase adjustment, and emergency backup for the Guangdong power grid, effectively alleviating the peak electricity pressure in the Pearl River Delta region, enhancing the consumption capacity of new energy such as wind power and photovoltaics, and providing stable power support for the green and low-carbon development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Guizhou Pumped Storage Power Station project is located in Qiannan Prefecture, with a total installed capacity of approximately 800000 kilowatts and a winning bid amount of 1.5 billion yuan. This project fully utilizes the natural reservoir basin advantages formed by Guizhou's karst landforms, adopting the classic layout of "upper reservoir+lower reservoir+water conveyance system+power plant", with an expected annual power generation of 1.2 billion kilowatt hours. After the project is put into operation, it will complement and link with the new energy power stations already built in Guizhou, further optimize the allocation of power resources in the southwest region, enhance the level of safe and stable operation of the power grid, and drive local infrastructure construction and related industry development, helping rural revitalization.

Pumped storage, as the most mature and cost-effective long-term energy storage method currently available, is the core support for building a new type of power system. The landing of the 4.3 billion level pumped storage project in Guangdong and Guizhou is not only an important measure for both regions to implement the "dual carbon" goal, but also adds a "ballast stone" to the energy supply guarantee in the southern region, promoting the accelerated transformation of the energy structure in southwestern and southern China towards clean and low-carbon. Next, all parties involved in the cooperation will accelerate the preliminary preparation work of the project, and it is expected to achieve full construction within the year.
