The Maharashtra government of India and GSC Group of Singapore have recently signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation, planning to build the Panchimari Devalipada pumped storage power station in the states of Durie and Nandurubal. The project has an installed capacity of 1.5 gigawatts and a total investment of 960 million US dollars. It is expected to create approximately 2500 job opportunities for the local area during the construction period.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devindra Fadnavis made it clear at the signing ceremony that the state government will establish a fast track approval mechanism for this project to ensure that all permits are obtained on time. This commitment demonstrates the strong support of the local government in promoting clean energy projects. It is worth mentioning that this is the third pumped storage project developed by GSC Group in India. Previously, the company had initiated the construction of 900 MW and 1.5 GW pumped storage power stations in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, respectively.

According to data released by the state government, Maharashtra has signed memorandums of understanding for 50 pumped storage power station projects, with a total installed capacity of 70.3 gigawatts. As the scale of solar power generation in India continues to expand, pumped storage power stations, with their mature technology, have become a key solution to address the challenges of energy storage in the power grid, "said Sumit Nanda, Chairman of GSC Group
The project is located in the Sayadari Mountains region, where the geographical conditions are very suitable for the construction of pumped storage power stations. By developing pumped storage power stations, Maharashtra will effectively enhance its power grid regulation capacity, provide important support for the large-scale development of renewable energy, and also promote further improvement of local clean energy infrastructure.
