A huge water network covering the eastern and northern parts of Beijing is accelerating its weaving. In early spring of 2026, Beijing Water Investment Group Co., Ltd. officially pressed the start button.
The survey and design work for the South to North Water Diversion Supporting Water Supply Project in Beijing's urban sub center has opened for bidding. This underground lifeline, with a total length of 93.7 kilometers and a total investment of 14.375 billion yuan, has taken a crucial step from early planning to implementation. The water flow remains stagnant, and the survey takes precedence. This preliminary battle, which concerns the water supply safety of the sub center of Beijing and even the entire northern region of Beijing, has already begun.

According to the bidding plan, this heavyweight project is expected to be officially announced between March 2 and June 30, 2026. As a key supporting project of the South to North Water Diversion Project in Beijing, its progress is tight and orderly. The olive branch extended by the project owner Beijing Water Investment Group Co., Ltd. mainly covers two core areas: survey and design. This water supply artery, called the East Second Ring Road, starts from the Yizhuang regulating pool and extends northward until it reaches the Huairou Reservoir. Along the way, it connects the Yizhuang Development Zone, Tongzhou, Chaoyang, Shunyi, and Huairou districts like pearls.
Specifically, survey work is not simply drilling, but rather providing accurate geological maps for subsequent design and construction, ensuring the safety and controllability of the project in complex underground environments; The design work is even more extensive, requiring the completion of the entire design process. It not only needs to meet the water supply function, but also needs to be combined with regional planning to come up with a comprehensive plan that balances science, efficiency, and green. After all, this is not just a water pipeline, but also an infrastructure integrated into urban development. Keywords: water conservancy, South to North Water Diversion

The weight of this project far exceeds that of ordinary municipal projects. It is an important extension of the South to North Water Diversion Project in the Beijing area and serves as a guiding principle to ensure the safety of water supply in the urban sub center and along the route. Behind the massive investment of over 14.3 billion yuan is a deep optimization of water resource allocation. The smooth progress of the project is not only related to the production and living water security of millions of people along the route, but also has irreplaceable strategic significance for improving the regional ecological environment, enhancing the strategic reserve capacity of water resources, and supporting the high-quality development of Beijing's urban sub center. If the water is connected, the city will thrive. The birth of this underground river is accumulating more abundant water power for Beijing's future.Editor/Cheng Liting
