It is reported that the Huangmaoxia Reservoir Hub Project is located in a key section of the middle and lower reaches of the Beijiang River. The total investment of the project is expected to exceed 13 billion yuan, and the construction period is 60 months. The engineering hub mainly consists of reservoir dams, flood discharge structures, navigation structures, power plants, and supporting transportation connecting lines. It is a comprehensive water conservancy and transportation project that integrates multiple functions such as flood control, navigation, power generation, and water resource allocation. Among them, the flood control standard is designed for a 100 year return period. After completion, it will effectively reduce the peak flood of the Beijiang River, protect the safety of downstream coastal towns, farmland, and important infrastructure, and solve the shortcomings of regional flood control; The navigation building adopts double line five level ship lock, and the designed navigation capacity is 3000 ton fleet. After completion, it will open the "bottleneck" of Beijiang Channel, realize the efficient connection of inland navigation between the the Pearl River Delta and northern Guangdong, significantly reduce the cost of cargo transportation, and improve the regional comprehensive transportation system.

After the completion of the project, a comprehensive benefit of "guaranteed flood control, efficient shipping, and improved ecology" will be formed. In terms of flood control, the downstream coastal flood control standard can be raised from the current 20-50 year return period to a 100 year return period, protecting a population of over 500000 and a cultivated land area of about 300000 mu; In terms of shipping, the level of the Beijiang waterway will be upgraded from Level III to Level II, and the annual navigation capacity will be increased to over 50 million tons, helping to build an inland shipping network with "linkage between main and branch waterways and direct river sea access"; At the same time, the project will be equipped with ecological protection facilities such as ecological fishways and coastal greening, taking into account water resource allocation and ecological restoration, to achieve harmonious coexistence between water conservancy projects and the natural environment.
