On the vast land of South Africa, a green energy revolution is accelerating. Recently, internationally renowned EPC company Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) announced that it has successfully won the bid for a 240 MW AC solar photovoltaic project in South Africa, with a total contract amount of 13.13 billion rupees (approximately 147 million US dollars). This is the second major order obtained by the company in the South African market within two months of this fiscal year, which not only demonstrates the company's competitiveness in the international market, but also reflects the huge development potential of South Africa as an emerging renewable energy market in Africa.

The company has won consecutive large orders, and its market position in South Africa is becoming increasingly stable

SWREL's Global CEO, Chandra Kishore Thakur, stated that the acquisition of this important order has brought the company's order inflow for this fiscal year to approximately 50.8 billion rupees, demonstrating a strong development trend. Of particular note is that with the signing of the new contract, SWREL is currently executing four solar projects simultaneously in South Africa, each from a different developer. This achievement fully demonstrates the company's solid customer base and excellent project execution capabilities established in the South African market. The parallel advancement of multiple projects not only consolidates SWREL's position in the South African market, but also lays a solid foundation for the company's continued expansion in the African region in the future.

The market maintains high-speed growth, and supporting policies continue to be improved

The South African solar photovoltaic market has maintained a good trend of rapid development in recent years. The latest statistical data shows that the newly installed photovoltaic capacity in the first quarter of 2025 reached 928 megawatts; By mid-2025, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaics is expected to reach 9.46 gigawatts, accounting for approximately half of the total installed capacity in the entire African region. To support the development of renewable energy, the South African government has formulated the South African Renewable Energy Master Plan (SAREM), which clearly sets the goal of adding 3-5 gigawatts of renewable energy installed capacity annually by 2030. At the same time, the government plans to invest 2.2 trillion rand (approximately $126.7 billion) in energy transformation, striving to increase the proportion of solar photovoltaic power generation in the national electricity structure from the current 10% to 18% by 2039.

The market landscape presents diversification, with particularly outstanding performance in the business sector

After years of development, the South African photovoltaic market has formed a diversified market pattern. In the field of public utilities, the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Program (REIPPPP) continues to play an important role, and in the recently completed seventh round of procurement, all 1.29 GW photovoltaic projects were successfully awarded. At the same time, the industrial and commercial sector has shown strong growth momentum, with registered project capacities ranging from 100 kW to 50 MW reaching 350 MW since June 2024. Although the growth rate of the residential market has slowed down, the policy level continues to optimize. South African Power Company has simplified the approval process for small solar systems, saving about 9000 rand in installation costs for household users, which will further promote the development of distributed photovoltaics.
