Recently, the renovation and expansion project of the Zhajiasu Expressway has made significant progress - the first pile of the Xiuzhou Interchange mainline has officially started drilling, marking the comprehensive construction of this transportation artery project that connects Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces with a total investment of over 7 billion yuan in the Xiuzhou urban area. Stereoscopic transformation solves the pain of segmentation
As a key north-south passage connecting Zhejiang and Jiangsu, the Zhajiasu Expressway has been the lifeline of regional economic exchanges since its completion. However, with the acceleration of the integration process in the Yangtze River Delta, the original four lane design is no longer able to accommodate the surge in traffic flow, becoming a new bottleneck restricting regional linkage. What is even more prominent is that the expressway is like an invisible wall, which has long divided the urban area of Xiuzhou into the eastern living area and the western industrial area, resulting in insufficient integration of industry and city, and obstructed flow of factors, becoming the core problem restricting the improvement of urban level.
The total length of this renovation and expansion project is 25.24 kilometers, and it is planned to be completed and opened to traffic in September 2028. The entire line will be upgraded to a two-way eight lane road, achieving a qualitative leap in traffic capacity. The most innovative one among them is undoubtedly the lifting and renovation model adopted for about 7 kilometers in the urban area of Xiuzhou. The project will construct a composite three-dimensional transportation system consisting of an upper eight lane expressway and a lower six lane urban road, completely changing the single passability function of the expressway and achieving seamless connection and spatial reuse between high-speed transportation and the urban road network.
From binary segmentation to industry city integration
The direct benefit of three-dimensional transformation is to physically break the isolation between the eastern and western plates. For a long time, the commercial community on the east side of the highway has been mature but the space is limited, while the industrial agglomeration in the Jiaxing National High tech Zone on the west side lacks sufficient living facilities. After the renovation, the newly added urban roads at the lower level will serve as a link, directly connecting the east and west, promoting the efficient flow of talent, technology, capital and other factors.
Xiuzhou District will take this opportunity to systematically plan the western space, layout public service facilities such as education, healthcare, and commerce along the new transportation axis, and promote the transformation of industrial functional zones into comprehensive urban areas. This means that people working in the western high-tech zone in the future can more conveniently enjoy the commercial and public services on the east side; And residents on the east side can also reach employment opportunities on the west side more quickly. Engineering construction always adheres to putting the people at the center. In addition to reshaping the macro pattern, the micro travel improvements brought by the project will benefit every citizen. The project will optimize the Xiuzhou Interchange and Majiabang Interchange, and add the Xiuhu Interchange. A high-speed entrance and exit will be opened to the north of Xiuhu, greatly improving the convenience of regional high-speed access.

More importantly, the project will simultaneously open up 13 east-west dead end roads such as Yuying Road and Del Road, comprehensively renovate traditional blockages such as Zhongshan Road Xiangxian Bridge and Honggao Road Expressway Culvert, and achieve full connectivity of Huoju Road. These measures will effectively alleviate regional traffic pressure, significantly improve the daily commuting conditions of residents in the western part of Xiuzhou, achieve convenient travel experience with high-speed access to distant places and direct connection to their homes on the ground, and effectively enhance the sense of gain and happiness of the masses.
