On December 2, 2025, the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Emissions officially issued an important development permit, and the Tillbridge photovoltaic energy storage project jointly developed by Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of China's Canadian Energy Group, and its partners was approved for implementation. This 800 MW photovoltaic power station located near Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, UK, equipped with a 500 MW/1000 MWh energy storage system, will become one of the leading clean energy bases in the UK, providing strong support for achieving the net zero target.

Large hybrid power stations assist in clean power supply

The Tillbridge project is jointly promoted by Recurrent Energy and UK based developer Tribus Clean Energy, with plans to construct an 800 MW photovoltaic array and a 500 MW/1000 MWh energy storage system. The project is expected to generate 857.6 gigawatt hours of electricity annually, which can meet the annual electricity needs of nearly 300000 British households, and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 15 million tons throughout its lifecycle. The construction phase is expected to create 1250 job opportunities for the local area and drive regional economic development.

Biodiversity gain and environmental improvement

This project focuses on the coordinated development of ecological environment and community benefits, promising to achieve at least 64.44% net biodiversity gain. The project will enhance regional ecological connectivity by constructing green corridors, while upgrading and renovating public facilities such as community leisure trails, creating a better living environment for local residents and achieving an organic combination of clean energy development and nature conservation.

Supporting the UK's energy transition and grid stability

As an important renewable energy infrastructure in the UK, the Tillbridge project will not only provide stable and reliable clean electricity to the UK power grid, enhancing energy supply security, but also its large-scale energy storage system can effectively smooth out fluctuations in photovoltaic power generation

improve grid regulation capabilities and operational reliability. The CEO of Recurrent Energy stated that the project reflects the company's determination to advance large-scale renewable energy projects globally and will provide substantial support for the UK to achieve its net zero emissions target.
